The Veterans Ranch Provides Healing through Horses for Veterans: Relocating Headquarters to North Texas

North Texas, August 8th, 2024 — The Veterans Ranch, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing free equine therapy for Veterans, Gold Star Families, Active Duty Military, and their families, announced today its plans to relocate its headquarters to North Texas. This strategic move will enable The Veterans Ranch to serve more attendees from a centralized location in the U.S., significantly expanding its reach and impact.

Since its founding in 2017, The Veterans Ranch has offered equine-assisted therapy at no cost, helping participants work through trauma, PTSD, anxiety, depression, and other challenges through the power of the horse-human connection. The program begins with participants getting to know the horses and progresses to simple grooming activities that foster a bond between the horse and the person. J.R. Smith, Vice President and COO, explains, “It allows them to start forgetting about the world for a while and begin the journey of laying down heavy coats of burden they sometimes don’t even realize they are hanging on to.” Over the years, the organization has served hundreds of individuals throughout Central Florida.

The relocation to North Texas marks a significant milestone for The Veterans Ranch. The new facility will offer expanded programs, including western riding lessons, trail rides, short and long-term stay cabins, and a fresh fruit and vegetable stand where participants can learn to grow their own food using hydroponics and aquaponics. While this move will facilitate future growth, it also comes with a substantial cost of nearly $1 million to relocate halfway across the country.

Pam Smith, President of The Veterans Ranch, stated, “The Veterans Ranch believes that every veteran and military family member deserves access to effective mental health services, and this move will allow us to fulfill that mission on a much larger scale. Though this relocation is an enormous undertaking, the opportunity to impact thousands more lives makes it worthwhile. We are calling on individuals and organizations to help us achieve this vision with their financial support.”
